Across the Bay 10k to Open New Registration Block Jan. 15, Selects Third Official Charity Partner

Inaugural event on Nov. 9 will take 20,000 runners across iconic Chesapeake Bay Bridge

STEVENSVILLE, Md. (January 10, 2014) – The highly anticipated second general registration block for the Across the Bay 10k is set to open at noon on Jan. 15 at www.bridgerace.com, with close to 5,000 runners on the wait list.

The field size for the inaugural race across the Chesapeake Bay on Nov. 9 is capped at 20,000 entrants and has about 10,000 runners already registered for the event. The first registration block of 5,000 slots last November filled within four days.

The second wave of registration for the inaugural Across the Bay 10k on Nov. 9 opens on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

A wait list that opens registration at 8 a.m. on Jan. 15 – four hours ahead of the general public opening at noon – already has close to 5,000 on the list.

A third and last block will open on March 15.

“The response to this race has blown us away,” said Sparrow Rogers, who organized the Across the Bay 10k along with partner Peter Paris. “With this many people on the wait list, this next block could fill shortly after it opens.”

Race organizers have selected three official charity partners to benefit from the event – The Yellow Ribbon Fund, Bosom Buddies Charities and, just last week, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), Maryland Chapter.

“This historical event gives us the opportunity to raise critical funds for the mission of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society while expanding the awareness for our campaign to a new audience,” said Nicole Bear, campaign director for LLS’ Team in Training program. Team in Training, a charity endurance sports training program for LLS that started in 1988, has raised more than $1.3 billion to fund life-saving research.

The second wave of registration for the inaugural Across the Bay 10k on Nov. 9 opens on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

“We are incredibly excited to have Team in Training as one of our charity partners,” Paris said. “They bring a tremendous amount of energy and purpose to a race and we’ll be thrilled to see their team out on the bridge in November.”

Each charity partner receives a $50,000 package that includes 25 race entries for fundraising, space at the pre-race expo on race weekend and inclusion as an official partner on the race registration platform.

Runners are encouraged to select an official charity partner during the registration process. More information is available at www.bridgerace.com.

The second wave of registration for the inaugural Across the Bay 10k on Nov. 9 opens on Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The Across the Bay 10k is set for Nov. 9, 2014, and will take up to 20,000 runners across the iconic, 4.3-mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge, which reaches 186 feet at its tallest point. The inaugural event will mark the first organized crossing of that bridge since 2006.

Race organizers Peter Paris and Sparrow Rogers, both of St. Michaels, Md., founded Chesapeake Bay Bridge Run LLC, a Maryland-based partnership behind Across the Bay 10k. Paris and Rogers have tapped renowned race director Dave McGillivray to head up the inaugural event. McGillivray, along with his team at DSME Sports, will oversee the highly anticipated race.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge Run LLC is a Maryland-based partnership founded by Peter Paris and Sparrow Rogers, both of St. Michaels. The Across the Bay 10k will be hosted by Live Work Play in QA, the State of Maryland and the Annapolis Visitors Bureau. More information is available online at www.bridgerace.com.
