Attorney Clare Tully, a Media and Entertainment Law Specialist, Joins Bernstein Shur
Appointment broadens firm's Business Law Practice Group and expands presence in Midcoast Maine
Attorney Clare Tully, a media and entertainment law specialist, has joined the Business Law Practice Group at Bernstein Shur, providing the firm with expertise in a growing and evolving area of law.
Tully will work out of Bernstein Shur’s offices in Portland and will maintain her office in Rockport, increasing the multi-service firm’s presence in Midcoast Maine. The firm has offices in Portland and Augusta, Maine, and Manchester, New Hampshire.
“Clare is an experienced attorney with a keen understanding of the changing face of media and entertainment in this country and around the globe,” said Charles E. Miller, Bernstein Shur’s Managing Shareholder. “She will lead the way as we begin to provide our brand of practical and innovative counsel to clients in this expanding area of the law.”
Tully will focus her practice on media and entertainment law matters, including the negotiation of talent and license agreements for the production, distribution, and merchandising of broadcast programs and independent and feature films. She also will advise clients regarding the exploitation of short-form content utilizing the internet, radio, cell phones and other mobile technology platforms.
“Clare’s presence improves our ability to provide specialized services to clients in Camden, Rockport, Rockland, and other areas of Midcoast Maine,” Miller said.
Prior to joining Bernstein Shur, Tully was employed for more than a decade at NBC, where she negotiated domestic home video, merchandise, and cable deals, and supported NBC’s globalization efforts by driving the launch of international channels. As NBC’s Director of Business Affairs, she also negotiated myriad program output deals and was responsible for monitoring program license agreements for NBC’s international sales operation.
As NBC’s Director of Business Development, Tully was responsible for generating new sources of revenue and promotion for NBC News, pursuing strategic alliances, and evaluating potential investments in emerging technology channels.
Tully also served as senior vice president of the National Audubon Society, leading a division consisting of five core businesses and providing leadership, vision, and strategic direction to a staff of 40 employees.
Tully received her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1985. She also received a Master of Social Work in 1981 from the University of Michigan School of Social Work, and a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University, where she graduated cum laude in 1980.
Bernstein Shur is one of northern New England’s largest multi-service law firms, with more than 90 attorneys in offices in Maine and New Hampshire. Founded in 1915, the firm provides practical and innovative counsel in the areas of business law, litigation, and municipal law to clients throughout the region and around the world. Bernstein Shur is Maine's exclusive member of Lex Mundi, the world's leading association of independent law firms. For more information, visit bernsteinshur.com.
