Attorney Evan L. Hammonds has joined the law firm of Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson and will practice in the firm's Bankruptcy and Insolvency Practice Group.

The attorneys in the group represent clients in reorganizations and liquidations under Chapter 11 and Chapter 7, large commercial insolvencies, and related litigation in the state, federal and bankruptcy courts in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and other districts in the United States. Bernstein, Shur lawyers have played instrumental roles in many of Maine's largest Chapter 11 bankruptcies.

In addition, the group's experience and expertise includes litigation involving officers and directors' liability, lender liability matters, out-of-court restructurings (including workouts, assignments for the benefit of creditors, and receiverships), and commercial and business tort litigation.

A Portland, Maine resident, Hammonds formerly served as an associate in the Finance Department at Bingham, McCutchen LLP in New York and Boston. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute.

Hammonds is a graduate of the Boston College Law School in Newton, Mass., and received his undergraduate degree in 1996 from the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
