Bernstein Shur Adds Kenyon Shubert and Katherine Knox, Bolstering Litigation and Municipal Law Areas

PORTLAND, Maine – Attorneys Kenyon R. Shubert and Katherine R. Knox have joined Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson, bolstering the regional law firm’s litigation and municipal law areas. Both will be based in Bernstein Shur’s Portland office.

Shubert joined the Litigation Department. She will focus her practice on a range of litigation matters, including health, employment, insurance and energy law at Bernstein Shur, one of Northern New England’s largest firms with 81 attorneys in three locations. She is a member of the American Bar Association.

A South Portland resident, Shubert received her law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Maine School of Law in Portland and her undergraduate degree, cum laude, in anthropology in 1998 from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. She is a 1994 graduate of Bangor High School.

Knox has joined the Municipal and Governmental Services Practice Group. She will focus her practice on a range of municipal law issues and governmental relations work, including lobbying.

Bernstein Shur offers Maine’s longest serving and most experienced municipal law practice. The firm serves as general counsel to more than 55 Maine municipalities and as special counsel to a range of quasi-municipal agencies and governmental entities, such as school districts, sewer districts and regional planning commissions.

Knox has a strong background in political organizing and in social work. She currently serves as chair of ewomen!, an organization that trains Maine Democratic women to serve as legislative leaders. Knox also has served in a number of top elected positions with the Maine chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. She was named the Maine Social Worker of the Year in 1997. Knox also is a member of the Maine State Bar Association, the American Constitution Society and the American Bar Association.

A Portland resident, Knox received her law degree from the University of Maine School of Law in 2004 and a master’s in social work in 1993 from the University of Maine in Orono. She received an undergraduate degree in 1990 from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
