Bernstein Shur Attorney Among Appointees to Telecommunications Boards

Governor Appoints Pat Scully to Chair the Broadband Access Infrastructure Board

Bernstein Shur attorney Pat Scully was recently appointed by the Governor to chair the newly-created Broadband Access Infrastructure Board. Scully will also serve as a member of the state’s Telecommunications Infrastructure Steering Committee.

Last week, Governor John E. Baldacci signed an Executive Order creating the PK-20 Telecommunications and Technology Infrastructure Board, the Broadband Access Infrastructure Board, and the Telecommunications Infrastructure Steering Committee to Prioritize, Coordinate and Implement the Necessary Enhancements and Accessibility of Wireless Telecommunications and Broadband Technology.

“It shows foresight on the part of the Governor to be planning our future regarding these technologies,” said Scully. “The next 10 years will be a critical time in the development of broadband and other technologies. It is essential that Maine citizens and communities have every opportunity to benefit from access to broadband services. It’s an honor to be a part of this effort.”

At Bernstein Shur, Scully represents a number of Maine towns, special districts and companies in utility regulation matters, including the regulation of electricity, gas, water, and telecommunications. He is chair of the Municipal and Governmental Services practice group at the law firm and is one of the state’s leading attorneys in the area of cable television franchising, rate regulation, and the siting of telecommunications facilities. Scully is also listed regularly in Best Lawyers in America for public utility law.

Scully, a resident of Brunswick, is a 1979 graduate of Dartmouth College and a 1984 magna cum laude graduate of University of Maine School of Law. He is a member of the Cumberland County and Maine State Bar Associations, as well as the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Associates, the National Association of Bond Lawyers, and the International Municipal Lawyers Association.

Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson is one of northern New England's largest law firms with more than 80 lawyers in offices in Portland and Augusta, Maine and in Manchester, N.H. The firm provides legal services in all other major subject areas, including corporate and commercial law, litigation and trials, municipal and governmental affairs, labor and employment law, education law, construction law, and tax and estate planning. The firm also has an active practice in bankruptcy, health law, environmental law, technology and commerce, legislative law, intellectual property, public utilities, and other regulated industries.
