Bernstein Shur Attorney Patricia Peard Named Recipient of University of Maine Law School's Wroth Award

PORTLAND, Maine – Bernstein Shur attorney Patricia A. Peard has been named this year’s recipient of the L. Kinvin Wroth Award at the University of Maine School of Law.

The award, which was presented to Peard at the law school’s recent graduation ceremonies, is awarded each year by the faculty to an alumna or alumnus for distinction in her or his professional life.
Past recipients of the award, which was named after a former dean of the law school, include distinguished Maine lawyers and jurists Leigh Saufley, Daniel Wathen, Paula Silsby, Peter Mills, Steve Rowe, Susan Calkins, Rosalyne Bernstein, and Jack Montgomery, also an attorney at Bernstein Shur.

Peard, a resident of Falmouth and a 1988 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law, joined Bernstein Shur in 1988.

Peard is a co-chair of Bernstein Shur’s Litigation Practice Group and chairs the firm's Education Practice Group. She practices in the area of general litigation with an emphasis in education law, employment and labor law, civil rights litigation, and disability insurance defense. She also handles personal planning matters for unmarried partners.

Peard recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from EqualityMaine for her role in getting legislation passed last year that protects the rights of gays and lesbians. She also worked to uphold the law by defeating a referendum last November.

Peard is recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the areas of business and employment law. She is a 1988 cum laude graduate of the University of Maine School of Law and received a Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota in 1970. She is a 1968 graduate of Wilson College.
