Bernstein, Shur Attorney to Review Environmental Law at Seminar

Jeffrey Thaler to take part in 2001 Legal Year in Review

Jeffrey A. Thaler, a litigation attorney and shareholder at Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson, will present a session on environmental law at the 2001 Legal Year in Review, an annual seminar for lawyers and judges sponsored by the Maine State Bar Association.

Thaler, who has been listed since 1988 in every edition of the "Best Lawyers in America" for environmental law, will lead the one-hour session at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Augusta Civic Center.

The presentation, one of 15 to be made by attorneys from throughout Maine, will focus on significant court decisions, statutes and state legislation related to environmental matters or land use from the past year. The talk will review cases involving key decisions made by planning boards and zoning boards of appeals, as well as wetlands issues and cases involving oil spills, oil-tank leaks, takings claims and air pollution.

For additional information or to register for the seminar, contact the Maine State Bar Association at (207) 622-7554.

A resident of Yarmouth, Thaler has been an adjunct professor at the University of Maine School of Law in Portland, teaching courses on environmental law. He also serves on the Board of Governors of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association, is vice president of KIDS Consortium, and was chair of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court's Advisory Committee on Professional Responsibility. In addition to his environmental work, he works in the areas of business, personal injury and toxic torts litigation, and is a frequent lecturer to legal and citizen groups.

Thaler is a 1974 magna cum laude graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. He received his law degree in 1977 from Yale Law School in New Haven, Conn.
