Bernstein Shur Expands with Three New Associates

Attorneys Lin Fan, Sarah Coburn and Lori Londis Join Firm

Three new attorneys - Lin Fan of Portland, Sarah Coburn of South Freeport, and Lori Londis of Portland - have joined Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest full-service law firms.

Lin Fan, a member of Bernstein Shur’s Business Law and International practice groups, will focus her practice on corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and international business transactions.


A native of China, Fan is a 1994 graduate of Shanghai Maritime University and earned an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University in 1998. She received her law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 2005. While at the University of Connecticut, Fan served as Symposium Editor for the Connecticut Public Interest Law Journal. She also received the CALI Excellence Award for Outstanding Class Performance of the Law of Evidence in 2005. Before joining the firm, Fan served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Donald C. Pogue of the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York and as a Law Clerk at the Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities, and Healthcare Administration in Montpelier.

Fan is a resident of Portland.

Sarah Coburn, a member of the Estate Planning, Trusts, and Probate Practice Group at Bernstein Shur, will focus her practice on estates and trusts.

Coburn is a 2005 graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and is a 2000 honors graduate from Brown University. While at Northeastern, she served as a Judicial Intern for Magistrate Judge Joyce London Alexander of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. At Brown, Coburn worked on a statewide research initiative assessing compliance with the Open Meetings and Open Records Act in Rhode Island. She was also previously involved with several research projects involving child abuse prosecution and prosecutorial discretion within the Rhode Island criminal justice system.

Coburn has extensive experience with various family support and child abuse/domestic abuse prevention organizations such as Sojourner House, Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund, and Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She has served as an advocate and counselor to victims of domestic violence and worked as a grant writer for various non-profit organizations.

Coburn is a resident of South Freeport.

Lori Londis, a member of Bernstein Shur’s Litigation Department, will focus her practice on general litigation matters. She is a 1989 graduate of Duke University and earned a master’s in English from the University of Alabama in 1992.


Londis is a 2005 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law. While at law school, Londis received the Faculty Significant Achievement Award, the Law Alumni Association Award, and the Wernick Prize for Legal Writing. Londis also served as an instructor and tutor at the school, holding weekly discussions on various constitutional law concepts for first-year students. She was awarded a grant from the Cumberland Bar Association to prepare a report for the Maine Judicial Advocacy Group. In the summer of 2003, she served as the Bernstein Fellow to the Hon. Joyce A. Wheeler of the York County District Court, where she conducted extensive research on Maine’s paternity and child support laws.

Before entering law, Londis taught English in Maine and around the world, including Luxembourg and Venezuela, and owned and managed a fair trade import company specializing in children’s furnishings and clothing.

A resident of Portland, Londis is also associated with Pro Bono Panel, Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project, and Literacy Volunteers of Portland.
