Robert G. Gerber has been appointed the executive director of Stratex, LLC, a Portland- based high technology consulting firm associated with the law firm of Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson. Gerber, a registered geologist and professional engineer with extensive experience in the energy and environmental fields, will direct the day to day operations of the company.

A Maine native and resident of Freeport, Gerber formerly served as president and chairman of his own energy consulting firm and has been involved in utility projects in Maine and the Caribbean. He has extensive experience in the siting, design, permitting and operation of landfills, sewage treatment plants, hazardous waste sites and petroleum contamination sites. He also has specialized experience in the electric utility industry and has served as a consultant to Maine Yankee, Central Maine Power, Bangor Hydro and others. He also served as environmental coordinator at Central Maine Power.

In addition to being a registered professional engineer and certified geologist, Gerber is a licensed site evaluator. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge and earned his master of science from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.

He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Geological Society of America and the Maine Association of Site Evaluators. Gerber has also authored numerous articles and given lectures and seminars on geological and environmental issues in Maine.
