Breakaway Adventures Offers Walking-Cycling Tours this Summer in France, Switzerland and Austria

Tour company to combine biking and walking in one tour; more info at www.Breakaway-Adventures.com

Breakaway Adventures, a U.S.-based tour company that specializes in walking and cycling tours in Europe, is offering a number of combo tours for the first time this summer in France, Switzerland and Austria, featuring walking, cycling and other activities in one tour.

“We have received a number of requests to combine our tours, so this summer we will offer a walking tour that also offers bike rentals on our off days, as well as multi-activity trips that include river rafting, mountain biking and boat trips,” said Carol Keskitalo, co-owner of Breakaway Adventures, which is located in South Carolina.

Known in the travel industry as one of the leaders in walking and cycling tours, Breakaway Adventures offers more than 200 cycling and walking tours each year. For additional information, call Carol Keskitalo at (800) 567-6286 or visit the company online at www.breakaway-adventures.com.

In France, three combo tours are offered:

• The “Amboise to Chenonceau Walk” departs every two days from May 11 to September 20, starting at $1,643 per person, double occupancy. The tour includes two nights in a luxurious four-star châteaux, and swimming pools four out of six nights. This easy-paced walk/cycle starts out along the banks of the majestic Loire River, lined with the great royal châteaux, including Chenonceau and Amboise.

• The “Jura Vineyard Trails” departs every two days from May 13 to September 20, starting at $1,785 per person. This varied walking holiday explores the Jura wine region, a network of medieval towns set against the dramatic backdrop of the Jura mountain range. The route takes two of France’s officially most beautiful villages – Baume les Messieurs and Chateau Chalon – with their medieval ramparts, feudal castles and ancient abbeys. The three-star hotels include a restored watermill at Arbois, and Mme Lombard’s quaint wooden little hotel with its panoramic swimming pool.

• The “Landscapes of the Luberon Walk” is based in the Luberon National Park of Provence, a land which has served as an inspiration for generations of poets, painters and writers. Departing every two days from April 11 to October 24, the tour starts at $1,899 per person. Three of the four hotels have pools and offer Provencal cuisine. This “easy” rated walk/cycle takes in quiet country lanes with plenty of time to explore exquisite villages, natural wonders and historic sights.

For each of the France tours, bikes are delivered to the hotels on each “rest day.” Bike rental fees are $100 per week for adults and $50 for children.

In Switzerland, the “Walking in Gstaad” combo tour offers an extensive range of facilities at a four-star hotel. Guided walks, mountain biking, an indoor pool, sauna and gym are all included in the tour price, starting at $1,959 per person for the 8-day/7-night center-based tour. Buffet breakfast and all evening meals are included at either of the restaurants, the beamed casual grill or the panoramic fourth-floor gourmet restaurant. Walking and mountain biking routes take in the beautiful southern hills of the Bernese Oberland, overlooking the pretty Alpine villages of Gstaad and Saanen.

In Austria, the “Austrian Lakes Activity” combo tour features a luxury four-star hotel, secluded gardens, exquisite cuisine and spa with indoor pool, waterfall, whirlpool, and steam bath. The base for this holiday is the picturesque Austrian village of Stobl, on the eastern shore of Lake Wolfgang, one of the prettiest spots in the region. A wide selection of independent walking, cycling routes are planned, typically oriented to the gentle “easy” and “1 boot” level, with optional detours for the more energetic. Lake cruising and a beach for sunbathing are possibilities along with a side trip to Salzburg. Continental breakfast and all evening meals are included on this 8-day/7-night tour.

All tours include pick up and drop off at airport/train station (as outlined in the tour description), breakfast and dinner each day, and fully researched walking and cycling route notes and maps. Also included are the services of the on-site representative who moves luggage from inn to inn and is available on call for special assistance, including pick up of wine purchases.

All hotels are researched and inspected on-site by Breakaway Adventures and are mostly three-star, many featuring swimming pools and fine food made with fresh, local produce.

Founded in 1997, Breakaway Adventures specializes in off-the-beaten-path gastronomic walking and cycling holidays, with more than 200 trips to 30 countries in Europe and the Mediterranean. For more detailed itineraries or to book a tour, visit www.breakaway-adventures.com or call 800-567-6286.
