Camp Sunshine Named Finalist in Toyota 100 Cars for Good Program

Toyota to donate vehicles to local nonprofit organizations based on public votes; voting for Camp Sunshine on Oct. 10

CASCO (October 1, 2013) – Camp Sunshine is one of 250 finalists in Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program, which will award vehicles to 100 nonprofit organizations based on votes from the public beginning today.

Toyota’s 100 Cars for Good program will showcase five nonprofit organizations each day for 50 days at www.facebook.com/Toyota. Visitors to the page will receive two votes each day to select two separate winning organizations they feel are most deserving of new Toyota vehicles. Camp Sunshine will be one of the five organizations highlighted for voting on Thursday, October 10.

Local residents are encouraged to support Camp Sunshine on Oct. 10 in the quest for a new Toyota Sienna mobility minivan. Voters must be Facebook users to participate. If Camp Sunshine receives the most votes and is awarded the wheelchair-accessible vehicle, it will be used to transport Camp Sunshine families to and from local airports, train and bus stations, and area hospitals.

Camp Sunshine (www.campsunshine.org) is a one-of-a-kind national retreat in Casco, Maine for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. The year-round camp on the shores of Sebago Lake offers the only program in the nation whose sole mission is to address the impact of cancer, kidney disease, lupus and other life-threatening illnesses on every member of the immediate family.

Camp Sunshine operates and provides week-long respites at no charge. The program includes 24-hour onsite medical and psychosocial support. While attending the various sessions, families are able to rebuild relationships together and meet other families facing similar challenges.
