Cartridge World Store Opens in Scarborough
First store in Maine refills ink and toner cartridges as affordable alternative to buying new
A Cartridge World has opened at 245 U.S. Route 1 in Scarborough, providing southern Maine consumers with an affordable alternative to costly printer cartridges.
The store, which uses cutting edge technology to refill printer inkjet and laser toner cartridges at roughly half the cost of buying them new, is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The phone number is (207) 510-7048.
The Scarborough store is the first Cartridge World in Maine, and the second so far in New England. The fast-growing franchise has more than 175 stores in the U.S., and 900 worldwide. The Route 1 store, located near the Oak Hill intersection, has a staff of four.
“It’s a quick, affordable way to keep your printer in ink,” said Phil Coupe, owner of the new store and a long-time resident of Scarborough. “Costs are usually 40% to 50% less than new printer cartridges and customers can usually expect to get their cartridge refilled in less than 15 minutes. “
The store has more than 200 types of ink and toners in stock, Coupe said. The store refills printer cartridges on most brand name printers, including HP, Epsom, Canon, Lexmark and Brother. They also sell brand name cartridges as well as generic compatible remanufactured cartridges.
“It can really save money to get a refill versus a new cartridge, and it’s good for the environment to recycle,” Coupe said.
For example, an HP 56 black inkjet cartridge, one of the most popular on the market, retails for about $20. But rather than paying that much to buy new, customers who come to Cartridge World can refill it for $10.80, Coupe said.
The store plans to have a grand opening in June and is now offering its new customers a 15% discount on refills of two or more cartridges through May 28.
“We’re here to serve students, families, businesses – anyone who needs to keep their printers running and is tired of the high cost of buying new,” said Coupe.
The Scarborough Cartridge World will also offer free pick up and delivery of laser toner cartridges for area businesses.
