City of Boston Credit Union Signs on as New Major Sponsor of Boston’s Run to Remember

Created to honor fallen police and first responders, the popular May 29 road race also is supported by New Balance, Star Market, Shaw’s and CBS Radio Mix 104.1

BOSTON (April 13, 2016) – The City of Boston Credit Union, one of the nation’s oldest credit unions, has signed on as a new major sponsor of Boston’s Run to Remember, the popular road race through historic Boston to honor fallen first responders, race officials announced today.

City of Boston Credit Union joins New Balance, Star Market, Shaw’s and CBS Radio Mix 104.1 as major sponsors of the 12-year-old 5K and half marathon event, set for May 29 in Boston.

“We couldn’t be more excited about supporting Boston’s Run to Remember through our new sponsorship with this incredible, meaningful event,” said Dan Trombley, Chief Executive Officer at City of Boston Credit Union. “We believe in the importance of giving back to the communities we serve. Our involvement with Boston’s Run to Remember and what this race represents in terms of honoring the men and women who make the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities safe, is a good fit for our organization.”

Established in 1915, City of Boston Credit Union has locations in Boston City Hall, Dorchester, West Roxbury and Canton. The credit union is known for offering members prompt, convenient, value-price and personal financial services.

The 2016 Boston’s Run to Remember, the only road race through historic downtown Boston to honor those who lost their lives protecting and serving others, already has more than 8,000 runners registered and organizers are encouraging runners to register now at their newly revamped website, bostonsruntoremember.com.

As an added bonus this year, every finisher will receive a commemorative, two-piece medal with a magnetized space to attach a special inner Challenge Coin of their choice that honors Police, Fire or First Responders.

Also, in February, Boston’s Run to Remember organizers announced the creation of the First Responder Challenge, where teams with a minimum of five runners from any first responder department in the U.S. compete in the half marathon for a chance to win bragging rights as well as a cash prize for the charity of their choice. The challenge in the past had been limited to police departments only. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. For more info on the challenge, please contact Brigit at BostonRuntoRemember@gmail.com

Both the half marathon and 5-mile races feature scenic loop courses that start at the Seaport World Trade Center and wind through historic downtown Boston, with the half marathon crossing over the Charles River along Memorial Drive in Cambridge before looping back.

The event’s expo and bib pick up is set for Saturday, May 28.

This is the 12th year for the annual charity event, created as a tribute to Massachusetts law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Boston’s Run to Remember is produced by a handful of police officers, detectives and their supporters who volunteer their time to create, organize and manage the race. Proceeds benefit the community and children’s programs of the police department running club.

Race organizers are planning for a field size of approximately 10,000. Last year, 9,438 runners crossed the finish line in the two races.

For additional information, find the race on Facebook or Twitter and visit the website at www.bostonsruntoremember.com. For those who cannot run this year but want to take part, donations may be made to Boston’s Run to Remember and sent to P.O. Box 760670, Melrose, MA 02176.
