Dr. Jan Wnek Named Medical Director of Martin's Point Health Care

Jan Wnek, M.D., a pediatrician with Martin's Point Health Care since 1989, has been promoted to medical director of the center's five locations throughout southern Maine and Portsmouth, N.H. In this role, she supervises the clinical staff and clinical care delivery to all patients.

"Jan is a dynamic, hands-on and conscientious medical professional with a keen sense of how to deliver the best patient care," said David Howes, M.D., president and chief medical officer of Martin's Point Health Care.

A resident of Brunswick, Dr. Wnek formerly served as assistant medical director for clinical management and chief of pediatrics for Martin's Point in addition to unit medical director at the Martin's Point Topsham facility. In addition to her duties at Martin's Point, Dr. Wnek also served as chief of pediatrics at Mid-Coast Hospital from 1992 to 1995 and previously served as a pediatrician with the Neonatal Service at Maine Medical Center.

Dr. Wnek's medical practice has specialized in learning disabilities, ADHD, gifted children and discipline issues. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physician Executives, the Community Health and Physician Advisory Committee (CHANS) and the Maine Assessment Foundation's Pediatric Group.

A magna cum laude graduate of Boston University in Boston, Mass. where she was Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Wnek also earned her MD from Northwestern University School of Medicine.

The mother of three boys and married to Dr. Joseph O'Connor, Dr. Wnek is also an active volunteer at Longfellow School in Brunswick and has taught human sexuality classes to adolescents at St. Charles Catholic Church.

During the past year, Dr. Wnek has played a key role in helping to design and develop Martin's Point new Brunswick facility, scheduled to open May 1. When completed, the $1.7 million facility will feature four family practice physicians, five pediatricians and a staff of 35 health care professionals. Located at the corner of Farley and Bath roads, the 12,700-square-foot center will offer extensive hours, laboratory services, nutritional counseling, cardiology services and health education programs such as smoking cessation, weight control and stress management.
