Dr. Melville Dickenson Joins Stratex, LLC as Senior Consultant

Brings more than 20 years of geological and environmental assessment experience to Bernstein Shur affiliate

Dr. Melville P. Dickenson III has joined Stratex, LLC as a senior consultant, bolstering the Bernstein Shur affiliate with more than 20 years of geological and environmental assessment experience.

A noted geologist and geochemist, Dickenson will focus on projects related to finding and protecting new groundwater supplies, and cleaning up groundwater, soil, and rock that have been contaminated. Groundwater remediation requires a detailed knowledge of both groundwater movement and chemical changes with time.

Stratex, LLC, an environmental and engineering subsidiary of Bernstein Shur, is a unique senior-level consulting firm that focuses on creative solutions to problems in the engineering, environmental, and land use fields.

“Mel Dickenson is one of the best in the business when it comes to site analysis and remediation, and we’re thrilled to have him on board,” said Stratex President Robert G. Gerber, who is considered one of New England’s leading experts in hydrogeology. “He will add tremendous value to our brownfield projects, for example, where contaminated land is returned to productive use in new development.”

A Falmouth resident, Dickenson has for the past six years operated his own environmental consulting firm, Dickenson & Associates. His experience includes serving on the consulting team working on the closure of the Connecticut Yankee nuclear power plant and providing environmental consulting services to Maine Yankee. In addition, he has managed numerous remediation projects throughout New England.

Before starting his own company, Dickenson served as a senior project manager at several local large engineering firms. He has been involved as an expert witness in numerous court cases. A Licensed Professional Geologist, Dickenson is a member of the Geological Society of America.

Dickenson received both a doctorate (1984) and a master’s degree (1980) in geochemistry from Brown University, and received his undergraduate degree in 1978 from the University of Rhode Island.

Established in 1998, Stratex is an environmental and engineering subsidiary of Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England's largest full-service law firms. Stratex serves a diverse group of clients, including businesses of all sizes, financial institutions, and municipalities. Stratex provides a wide range of services related to contaminated property, redevelopment, environmental permitting, regulatory support, municipal water and sewer system consulting, land use planning, and expert testimony. The company played a large role in the environmental aspects of the decommissioning of Maine Yankee. For more information, visit stratexllc.com.
