Dragon Cement and Concrete Holds Family Open House Saturday in Thomaston

An estimated 300 Dragon employees and family members from as far away as Portland and Madawaska came to Thomaston on Saturday to participate in the company’s Family Open House.


Attendees included employees from the Thomaston Cement Plant and the company’s Concrete Division. Many took part in walking tours provided by Dragon personnel of the recently modernized plant and tower as well as a tour of the quarry by passenger van.

Heavy-duty earth moving equipment and a concrete mixer truck on display were popular with the kids, especially those who climbed up into the cabs. Lunch was a catered barbeque with hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, watermelon and drinks.

In addition, the event featured a train ride from Thomaston to the marine terminal in Rockland and back with transportation provided by bus from the plant to the village and back.
