Dragon Products Company Awarded Westbrook Power Plant Contract
Dragon Cement and Concrete has been awarded the contract to supply concrete for construction of a gas-fired electric generating power plant in Westbrook. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2000. Dragon is supplying an estimated 20,000 cubic yards of concrete from its Portland plant for the project. Construction is being handled by Metric/Cianbro Joint Venture, based in Westbrook. As New England's only cement manufacturer, Dragon supplies cement and/or concrete to many major building projects throughout the state and region. The company employs about 250 statewide and has 10 ready-mix concrete plants throughout Maine. Dragon is currently supplying concrete for construction of the new Land Level Transfer Facility for Bath Iron Works in Bath. Other recent Dragon projects include providing some of the cement for the "Big Dig" in Boston, supplying all of the cement and most of the concrete for the new Casco Bay Bridge linking Portland and South Portland and for the Brunswick/Topsham Bypass on Route 1.
