Entries into Sold Out TD Beach to Beacon 10K Still Available from Rippleffect, the 2014 Race Beneficiary
Runners can secure bibs from Rippleffect and other past race charities in exchange for fundraising
CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (April 22, 2014) – Runners still looking for a spot at the start line of the sold-out TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race on Aug. 2 can secure a bib from Rippleffect, the race’s 2014 race beneficiary, in exchange for fundraising or by making a donation.
As of April 21, fewer than 140 bibs were still available from Rippleffect and 11 prior race beneficiaries. The charity organizations are allotted highly-coveted race entries by the TD Beach to Beacon and the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank® each year to utilize in fundraising efforts.
Rippleffect (www.rippleffect.net) is a Portland-based non-profit youth and community development organization leading outdoor adventure programs on Cow Island, in area schools and in the mountains of western Maine. Visit http://www.rippleffect.net/b2b to obtain a Rippleffect bib, set up a fundraising page or donate to Rippleffect runners. Those interested also can contact Rippleffect at 207 791-7870 or info@rippleffect.net.
“For runners who may have missed registration or are just now deciding to take part in our race, this is a great opportunity to receive a bib and also help out Rippleffect or one of the other former race charities,” said Michael Stone, race president. “We can’t think of a more fulfilling way to get into the race and we thank everyone who has or will decide to make fundraising part of their TD Beach to Beacon experience. It is greatly appreciated.”
The charity bib program also is ideal for clubs or civic groups looking for a charity activity that combines physical fitness with philanthropy, Stone added.
The TD Beach to Beacon 10K filled 4,000 slots online in a record-setting 4:32 last month, and the lottery that followed filled the remaining 1,900 spots. This year marks the 17th year for the popular international road race founded by Olympic gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson and set for Saturday, Aug. 2 in coastal Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
Selected as the 2014 race beneficiary, Rippleffect provides Maine youth with opportunities to emerge as leaders among their peers through adventure. Using kayaks, a ropes course, island exploration and more, Rippleffect served over 2,500 Maine children in 2013. Community generosity makes it possible for young people of all backgrounds to access these outdoor adventure and experiential education programs in the greater Portland area out of Cow Island in Casco Bay.
The TD Charitable Foundation will provide a cash donation of $30,000 to Rippleffect. TD Bank has now donated $510,000 to Maine charities over the 17-year history of the TD Beach to Beacon, while many past beneficiaries continue to raise significant funds each year through the race’s charity bib program.
In addition to Rippleffect, bibs are available from the following past beneficiaries of the TD Beach to Beacon:

Thousands of spectators cheered runners along the route and at the finish, and more than 800 volunteers helped ensure a smooth operation. The race debuted in 1998 with 2,408 runners crossing the finish line.
The TD Beach to Beacon begins near the Crescent Beach entrance on Route 77, winds along tree-lined streets and past breathtaking ocean vistas, and ends in Fort Williams Park at the historic Portland Head Light, the most photographed lighthouse in the world.
More than $60,000 in prize money is awarded to the top finishers and place winners in the various categories for men and women.
