Hacienda Xcanatún and Los Dos Cooking School in Merida Introduce Special Offer

MERIDA, MEXICO -- Hacienda Xcanatún - one of the Yucatán peninsula's most luxurious small hotels - is now offering a 20 percent discount to students of the Los Dos Cooking School in Mérida, capital of the state of Yucatán.

Los Dos is the Yucatán's premier gourmet cooking school specializing in authentic regional Yucatecan cuisine. For novices and pros alike, Los Dos serves the "culinary adventure" tourist trade, offering 1-, 2-, and 3-day cooking experiences, including trips to Mérida's colorful market, excursions to pueblos to witness the creation of typical meals, and lots of hands-on experience in the Los Dos kitchen. Los Dos is located in a beautifully restored Colonial home in Mérida's Centro Histórico.

Hacienda Xcanatun dates from the late 1700s, when it was built as a ranch for horses AND MULES ,and the cultivation of corn, before becoming on the more important sisal producing haciendas. More recently it has been restored and converted into an exclusive small luxury hotel with 18 suites, two pools and a full service spa.

It is known for its memorable cuisine at the "Casa de Piedra" restaurant, for its personalized service and all the modern amenities within the context of an old Yucatecan hacienda. It is conveniently located minutes from Mérida, and within easy access to main points of interest such as archaeological sites, colonial cities and beaches.

The Xcanatun/Los Dos special offer makes an attractive package for anyone wishing to study regional Yucatecan cuisine at Los Dos. The hotel and school are only 20 minutes apart, and easily commutable by means of Mérida's convenient and well-operated taxi system.

For additional information, visit www.xcanatun.com or www.los-dos.com. The special offer is not available Thanksgiving week, December 15 –January 6, nor the Easter holidays.

Los Dos is owned by Chef David Sterling, who teaches a variety of traditional Yucatán dishes such as Cochinita Pibil, Sopa de Lima and Queso Relleno. Rich desserts such as Caballeros Ricos and Helado de Chocolate Mexicano are made as well.

Classes are offered year-round at the school, which when it opened last year was the first school of its kind to focus exclusively on Yucatecan cuisine. And Sterling’s love for Yucatecan food and its Mayan-Spanish history comes through as he teaches.

“It’s a cuisine that has long been overlooked, which is amazing to me since Yucatecan food was possibly the first ‘fusion’ cuisine,” Sterling said. “It’s a clear blend of ancient Mayan cooking and Spanish techniques, and ingredients with just a touch of French and Caribbean added to the mix.”
