Lewiston Soccer Star Takes the Stage in Merrill Auditorium
Fifteen years after graduating from Lewiston High School, Glenn Davis still holds the school's career record for most soccer goals scored. Now a principal dancer with Maine State Ballet, Davis' goals these days are to jump higher and spin faster as he reprises his role of the dashing Nutcracker Prince in Nutcracker at Portland's Merrill Auditorium.
Once again, Davis will lead the army of toy soldiers in battle against the Mouse King under a 40-foot Christmas tree, the tallest ever on the Merrill Auditorium stage. Davis has made a striking transition from athlete to performing artist, beginning his dance training in 1991 and joining Maine State Ballet in 1993. Davis and his wife Janet, both principal dancers since 1997, are the proud parents of Emma Louise, born last December.
Over 200 company members and students from Maine State School for the Performing Arts will participate in one or more Nutcracker performances. This season marks the nationally acclaimed company's 20th anniversary since incorporation in 1982. With more than 200 performances throughout its history, Maine State Ballet's Nutcracker is the longest running production in the Portland area.
