Kate S. Debevoise, an attorney and shareholder at Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson, has been appointed to the Maine Board of Arbitration and Conciliation by Gov. Angus King. She will serve as Employer Representative to the board, which resolves collective bargaining agreement disputes and individual grievances of governmental employees.

A member of the firm's Litigation Department, Debevoise co-chairs the firm's Labor and Employment Law Group and concentrates her practice on employment law and business-related litigation in state and federal courts and agencies. Her practice covers discrimination, sexual harassment, hiring and termination practices, employment contracts and non-compete agreements and other workplace issues. Debevoise joined BSSN in 1987.

A 1987 graduate of Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Debevoise received her undergraduate degree from Kenyon College in Ohio. She is active in the Employment Law Section of the Maine State Bar Association and has lectured for the Bar and other legal and business organizations on employment issues, including hiring, discipline and termination procedures, drug testing, sexual harassment, employee fraud, privacy issues and discrimination. She is a member of the Cumberland County, Maine State and American Bar Associations and the Maine Trial Lawyers Association.

A resident of Yarmouth, Debevoise chairs the town's Zoning Board of Appeals. She also is a member of the Greater Portland YMCA Board of Directors and its Human Resources Committee.
