Martin’s Point Health Care to Host Home Alone Workshop in Brunswick and Portland
Advanced registration required for Portland class Sept. 7; Brunswick class Sept. 21
Martin's Point Health Care will offer its popular “Home Alone” workshop in September for children ages 9 to 11 who are home for short periods of time.
The workshop will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in Portland at the Health Education Center at Martin’s Point Health Care, 331 Veranda Street, and from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Brunswick center located at Bath and Farley Roads in the Cook’s Corner area.
The single-session workshop is designed to boost confidence and calm fears of children who spend time at home alone. The children learn basic first aid, how to recognize a true emergency, and how to call for help.
“We want children to be able to know what to do about situations that may arise when they are home alone, but also feel safe and secure,” said Leigh Kirchner, Senior Health Educator and instructor for the class.
For additional information or to sign up for the class, call Martin’s Point at (207) 828-2497 or 1-800-260-6681. The workshop is $10 per child and is open to members of the public with advance registration.
(NOTE: The class itself is not open to the media, but if any media are interested in doing a story on the topic, they can contact Martin’s Point staff listed above.
The Martin's Point Health Education Center offers a variety of resource materials, such as publications and videos, and classes that focus on a host of topics, ranging from weight management and smoking cessation to disease management.
