Martin’s Point Health Care Supports Communities in Transition
Organization expresses dismay over base closure list
Martin's Point Health Care officials said today they are saddened by the recent news from the Pentagon regarding the closure or reduction at the Portsmouth and Brunswick military facilities. The non-profit organization’s healthcare centers in Brunswick, Portland and Portsmouth will not be significantly affected since the patients they serve under the US Family Health Plan are not active military personnel. In fact, due to those possibly taking early retirement, Martin’s Point could have an increase in members. “We are saddened by this news and hope that our congressional delegation will be able to change the Pentagon’s decision,” said Mary Lynn Engel, Director of Communications at Martin’s Point. “In the meantime, we will support our communities in the best way we know how – moving forward with our plans to enhance health services at all of our Martin’s Point clinics.“ Martin’s Point administers the US Family Health Plan for the U.S. Department of Defense. The Martin’s Point program serves more than 20,000 military beneficiaries including retirees, their family members and family members of active–duty personnel. The plan does not support active military – they are served on their respective bases. Along with the US Family Health Plan, the clinics at Martin’s Point attend to the medical needs of more than 30,000 civilian patients and their families. Martin’s Point Health Care is a not-for-profit health care plan administrator and clinical services provider with facilities in Maine, and Portsmouth, N.H. Martin’s Point serves patients with all major health plans in the areas of family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, radiology, cardiology, mammography, and other fields. Martin’s Point administers the US Family Health Plan in Maine and New Hampshire. The US Family Health Plan is a TRICARE Prime option offering health care coverage to military retirees and dependents.
