WHAT: Posting of the Mile Markers along the Peoples Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race route in Cape Elizabeth.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 7, from 9:30 a.m. to about 10. Or, feel free to photograph the markers anytime after they are placed along the route.

WHERE: Along the race route on Route 77, starting at mile 1 near Inn by the Sea at 9:30. Look for the Cape Elizabeth Public Works truck..

The posting of the mile markers signifies the initial planning for this year's 5th Annual Peoples Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race, which will be held on Saturday, August 3, and offers $50,000 in prize money. The field size for the popular race has been expanded to 5,000 this year to mark the 5th anniversary of the race. This year's children's beneficiary is Opportunity Farm in New Gloucester.

The course begins near the Crescent Beach entrance along Route 77 and ends 6.2 miles later at the Portland Headlight at Fort Williams Park. The event also features a wheelchair division and a children's 1K race that begins at 10 a.m. at the Fort and has grown in popularity each year.

To register, runners may log on to the race's web address at http://www.beach2beacon.org or visit the Peoples Heritage Bank web site at http://www.peoplesheritage.com. Printed applications will also be in all Peoples Heritage Bank branches this week.
