RWS Community Mascot, "Reggie the Raccoon"
to visit Hamlin Elementary in South Portland

WHAT: Regional Waste Systems community mascot, Reggie the Raccoon, along with Eric Root, Director of Materials Recycling at RWS will visit 25 schoolchildren at Hamlin Elementary School for a presentation on recycling. THIS IS THE FINAL REGGIE APPEARANCE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

BACKGROUND:
RWS offers an age-appropriate recycling informational program geared for children in grades
K - 3 through its community mascot, Reggie the Raccoon. Reggie is available to visit member town schools, who along with Eric Root, Director of Materials Recycling at RWS, will deliver a fun and informative message about understanding the very real issues of how we can all do our part to value the environment. Reggie is a costumed character, in the tradition of Slugger the Sea Dog, and offers kids a lesson on recycling and the environment that they can take home to their parents and retain on their own.

Regional Waste Systems is a non-profit solid waste management corporation that is owned and controlled by 21 cities and towns, and also has six associate member towns. RWS also has the largest municipal recycling program in the state. RWS accepts solid waste and recycled materials from these communities and also a comprehensive, state-of-the-art recycling program with more than 100 recycling bins in 60 locations.
