Online Registration for TD Bank Beach to Beacon 10K Gets Underway March 12 and 13

New registration process for TD Bank Beach to Beacon combines first-come/first-serve with bib lottery

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (March 8, 2010) – Online registration for the 2010 TD Bank Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race begins for the general public at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 13. As part of a new process this year, a lottery has been added for those who do not secure a spot through online registration.

Also, beginning at 8 a.m. on Fri., March 12, Cape Elizabeth residents will have 24 hours to fill 600 slots reserved for the host community. More details about the registration process are available at http://www.beach2beacon.org/2010registration.

Runners register at the race website at http://beach2beacon.org. The 2010 race entry fee is $35. The TD Bank Beach to Beacon 10K, considered one of the jewels on the U.S. road race circuit, is set for Saturday, Aug. 7 in scenic Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Online registration for the Kids Fun Run begins Tuesday, March 23 at 10 a.m.

The new registration process, announced in January, combines the previous first-come/first-serve approach with a new bib lottery for those who do not secure one of the 4,600 slots reserved for the online registration. An additional 1,500 bib numbers will be distributed via the lottery.

Here is a rundown of how the new online registration process will work:

Phase One: Beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, March 12, Cape Elizabeth residents will have a 24-hour window to fill 600 slots. Addresses will be verified to ensure a Cape Elizabeth zip code.

Phase Two: Online registration will open to the general public at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 13. Registration will remain open until 4,000 runners are signed up.

Phase Three: Once the online registration limit of 4,600 is reached, visitors will be automatically directed to the lottery registration process. Lottery registrations will be gathered over a one-week period, ending at midnight on Sunday, March 20. A total of 1,500 bib numbers will be distributed in the lottery, which will take place Monday, March 21.

The remaining bib numbers will be set aside for runners who have participated in every TD Bank Beach to Beacon, as well as sponsors, elite athletes and runners from race charities.

The TD Bank Beach to Beacon draws runners from throughout the region and the world to the picturesque coastal community of Cape Elizabeth. Thousands of spectators cheer on the runners along the scenic course and at the finish, and more than 800 volunteers help ensure a smooth operation.

TD Bank is the title sponsor of the race founded by Cape Elizabeth native Joan Benoit Samuelson, winner of the first Olympic women’s marathon in 1984 and one of Maine’s most admired athletes. The beneficiary of this year’s race is Junior Achievement of Maine, Inc. (JA) (http://maine.ja.org), a non-profit organization providing economic education programs that help inspire Maine children to develop the skills, attitudes and behaviors of success in a global economy.

TD Bank, through the TD Charitable Foundation, will provide a cash donation of $30,000 to JA of Maine. The organization also will benefit from fundraising activities and publicity through its association with one of Maine’s premiere sporting events
