Paul W. Marshall Appointed to Board of Directors of Irving Tanning

HARTLAND, Maine ö Paul W. Marshall has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Irving Tanning Company, a leading designer and manufacturer of innovative, high-quality leather for the global footwear, handbag and accessories markets. Marshall, who joined the Board of the Hartland company in mid-April, brings a wealth of management knowledge and experience gained in numerous roles in both academia and industry.

Marshall is The MBA Class of 1960 Professor of Management Practice at Harvard Business School. He also has been a member of the Harvard Business School faculty on two prior occasions, from 1968 to 1976 and from 1989 to 1991. In his roles at Harvard, Marshall has taught, and developed materials for, various courses including Managerial Economics, Decision Analysis, Manufacturing Policy, Project Management, and Management Policy and Practice. He also has served as Course Head for Production and Operations Management and The Entrepreneurial Manager.

Prior to his most recent stint at Harvard Business School, Marshall served as Chairman and CEO of Rochester Shoe Tree Company, Inc. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of that company.

Marshall also was a founding principal of two management consulting firms. In these roles, he directed strategic reviews and competitive analyses of the global steel, iron ore, healthcare, and food packaging industries. Marshall is co-author of "Economics of International Steel Trade: Policy Implications for the United States."

Marshall's appointment completes a slate of five Directors at Irving. The other Directors are:

Michael P. Halpert, Chairman of the Board ö Halpert is CEO of Philadelphia Hide Brokerage Corp., a commodity futures and spot cattle-hide trading company. He also is the general partner of MASPAF Inc., a private investment company, and is an active participant in several hedge funds in New York and San Francisco.

Robert R. Gould, Vice-Chairman of the Board - Gould is a Partner in the investment banking firm Brown Brothers Harriman in Boston, and manages that firm's "1818 Mezzanine Fund," an investment fund that is Irving Tanning Company's largest shareholder.

David P. Middleton - Middleton is President and CEO of Irving Tanning in addition to serving on the Board of Directors.

Mark W. Johnson ö Johnson is a Managing Director at Brown Brothers Harriman. He is responsible for that firm's Boston Corporate Finance and Mergers & Acquisitions activities and is a Director of the DB Companies, Inc. He is active in sourcing for the "1818 Mezzanine Fund".

Irving Tanning began its operations in Hartland in 1936 and currently employs approximately 300 people at its facilities there.
