Peoples Beach to Beacon Updated Media Schedule of Events

2003 Peoples Beach to Beacon 10K Race

Thursday, July 31

Seeds of Peace runner's clinic from noon to 1 p.m. at Seeds camp in Otisfield, Maine. Joan Benoit Samuelson will lead the clinic, which will include a group of elite athletes from Kenya. They will speak to the entire camp and afterward elites may run with group of young campers who will be competing in the race as part of Seeds team. (PLEASE NOTE: Best time to interview Joan is prior to clinic, 11:30ish. She must leave promptly at 1 p.m.) Good angle as part of any story on Seeds and the international flavor of the race.

Runner Registration and Expo, Cape Elizabeth Middle School, 4 - 8 p.m. Good photo possibilities and could work as color piece on process and volunteerism.

Friday, August 1

Press Conference with Elite Athletes, Peoples Heritage bank officials, Race officials
Inn by the Sea, Cape Elizabeth, 10 a.m., Route 77, Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Finish Line Media meeting to reserve spot at Finish, Noon, at Finish Line, Fort Williams
Sandwiches and sodas provided

Elite Athletes Public Appearance, Hannaford on Forest Avenue, Portland, 1 p.m. Elite runners will sign autographs and meet customers. Commemorative lighthouse posters will be on sale for $20 as part of fundraiser. Contact Caren Epstein at Hannaford, 883-2911, for more information.

Saturday, August 2

6:30 a.m. Media on Media Truck arrive at Cape Elizabeth High School Parking Lot
7:00 a.m. Media Truck leaves for Start Line
7:15 a.m. Other media arrive at start line or Fort Williams before roads close
8 a.m.: Race start, wheelchairs
8:05 a.m.: Race begins for others
9 a.m. Media Availability in Press Tent with Elites, Maine runners, Master's, others in press tent at finish area
9:30 a.m. Kid's race begins
10:30 a.m. Awards ceremony begins at new location lower field (Parade ground field)
Noon: Wolfe PR puts out results release and list of results is posted on race website.

Sunday, August 3

Race Director Dave McGillivray, who also directs the Boston Marathon, will do his traditional "birthday run" where he runs a mile for every year of his life. This year, Dave will turn 49. He will begin at Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth at approximately 2 a.m. and run the race course back and forth until he reaches 49 milesÉ..(Media invited to join him on his run!!!)
