Peter MacMullan Named Vice President of Community Services at Youth Alternatives

PORTLAND, Maine ö Peter A. MacMullan has been promoted to vice president of community services at Youth Alternatives, a nationally accredited provider of services to children, youth and families throughout Maine. In his new role, he will oversee six community-based programs.

Dr. MacMullan joined Youth Alternatives in 1998, initially serving as the director of two Youth Alternative programs: Intensive Supervision Services and Homeless Youth Services. A licensed psychologist, he has more than 22 years of experience in the areas of child welfare, and adolescent and family therapy.

A resident of North Yarmouth, Dr. MacMullan holds a doctorate in psychology from Rutgers University in Piscataway, N.J., and received a masterÕs degree in clinical psychology from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, in 1984. He received his undergraduate degree in 1982 from Providence College in Providence, R.I.

Founded in 1972, Youth Alternatives provides a full range of services, from prevention of child abuse and neglect to intensive intervention and safe-haven homes for youth. Through its programs, Youth Alternatives serves more than 7,000 children, youth and family members throughout Maine each year.

Clients of Youth Alternatives include survivors of abuse and neglect, whether physical, emotional or sexual; parents in need of support and education; children and youth at risk for homelessness or criminal behavior; and/or families at risk of having a child removed from their homes.

Youth Alternatives (YA) is headquartered at 400 Congress St. in Portland. In addition to programs and services, YA residential homes for children include Bass House, Heritage House, PerryÕs Place, ReardonÕs Place and ROADS Group Home. The organization also works to prevent child abuse and neglect through the Cumberland County Child Abuse & Neglect Council, Family Mediation, Healthy Families Partnership and Parenting Education programs.

In addition, YA provides community support for children and families through services in the following areas: family intervention, family outreach, intensive supervision, treatment foster care, homeless youth and substance abuse.
