RTP Names Arlene Clow "Driver of the Year" for 1998

Arlene L. Clow, a driver with Regional Transportation Program (RTP) since 1978, was named "Driver of the Year" for 1998. This is the third time Clow has received the honor in the seven years since the Portland-based community transportation agency began designating a top driver. Clow also won in 1993 and 1997. RTP, a non-profit agency, employs 33 drivers.

"Arlene truly deserves this honor ÷ she's earned it again," said Jon McNulty, RTP's executive director. "She's been extremely dedicated and a wonderful link to the communities we serve." A resident of Sebago, Clow is a native of Laconia, N.H., and a 1951 graduate of Laconia High School. She served as a member of Sebago's Budget Committee for six years and is a member of the United Methodist Church of Sebago. She also served for 16 years as shop steward for the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 714.

"I feel extremely honored, naturally," said Clow. "RTP is a really wonderful service, and I feel proud about this honor."

Headquartered at 127 St. John St., RTP is a non-profit United Way agency which provides transportation to the elderly, social service agency clients, the economically disadvantaged and persons with disabilities in Cumberland County. The agency has 20 buses and five vans serving the region, and also provides rides through an extensive volunteer driver program. RTP services include door-to-door rides through a county-wide bus service, the Senior Shoppers Express, Access to Health Care and the ADAPT program for disabled persons who need rides to public transportation services in Westbrook, South Portland and Portland.

Communities served by the agency include Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth, Westbrook, Gorham, Gray, Falmouth, Yarmouth, Freeport, Windham, Standish, Casco, New Gloucester, Bridgton and other towns in Cumberland County.
