RTP Offers Cumberland County-Wide Bus Service For Only $1 To $4 Per Round Trip

Regional Transportation Program (RTP) is offering bus service to Portland and South Portland from most Cumberland County towns for as little as $1 up to a maximum of $4 per round trip.

Anyone can take advantage of RTP's county bus routes, riding the bus for shopping, hospital visits, city errands, a visit to the public library or any other purpose. Most buses travel to downtown Portland, the Maine Medical Center and the Maine Mall. Other stops can be arranged, if possible, to meet individual travel needs.

Reservations must be made in advance. RTP dispatchers are available from 6 a.m. until
7 p.m., Monday through Friday, to take reservations. Most county-wide bus trips arrive in Portland by 10 a.m. and leave by 2 p.m. Additional early morning service is available on some routes. For more information about where and when buses are available in individual towns, call the RTP office at 774-2666.

The round trip fare is $1 within one town, $2 between neighboring towns, and $4 for longer Cumberland County trips. The one-way fare is the same as the round trip fare. Senior citizens are not charged a fare, but a donation is requested.

Headquartered in Portland at 127 St. John Street, RTP has a fleet of 29 buses and vans and primarily serves Cumberland County residents who are senior citizens, disabled, clients of social service agencies or economically disadvantaged. RTP serves towns throughout the region, including Portland, South Portland, Scarborough, Westbrook, Gorham, Falmouth, Bridgton, Cape Elizabeth, Yarmouth, Freeport, Windham and others.
