Radiant Images Helps Cinematographer Peter Levy Achieve Attractive Look of Showtime’s House of Lies

LA-based rental house and digital cinema innovator provides cameras, lenses, on-set color management system and support for Season 2

LOS ANGELES (February 26, 2013) - Radiant Images is supporting Season 2 of House of Lies by providing gear and support to help Cinematographer Peter Levy, ASC, achieve the fresh, polished look of the Showtime TV comedy.

Shooting just ended for the new season of House of Lies (Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT), which premiered last month with its highest ratings ever and already has been renewed for another season in 2014.

Peter Levy, nominated for an ASC Award for his cinematography work in Season 1, enlisted Radiant Images to provide cameras and equipment for Season 2. Levy, together with 1^st AC (A camera) Allen Cohen and 1^st AC (B camera) Scott Ronnow, are shooting the series on ARRI Alexa cameras with Angenieux Optimos lenses in both the 24-290MM and 30-80MM focal lengths.

Levy is taking an uncommon approach to shooting the series by manipulating color and making adjustments live on-set as scenes are being shot, rather than in post production. Enclosed alone inside a DIT tent on the set, he receives the raw images and makes color corrections in real time using equipment provided by Radiant Images.

“Peter came to (Radiant Images) with a vision of what he wanted to do on set and we helped him make his vision a reality with the right tools, which is our specialty,” said Art Criste, Rental Manager at Radiant Images.

Radiant Images worked closely with Levy in pre-production to identify the equipment best suited to give him the flexibility and performance required. The live color grading is performed utilizing FilmLight’s Truelight On-Set color management system and the Cine-tal Cinemage digital cinema color reference monitor.

Truelight is the world's only complete film color management system for pre-visualizing film images on electronic display devices. Truelight enables artists, colorists, cinematographers and directors to review, accurately, the final look of the film at any point in the digital post-production process – reducing film-outs, matching and rework, and saving valuable time.

Criste spent a day with the House of Lies crew in a remote location in Las Vegas for one of the final days of shooting on the 2012 season, where he got a chance to watch Levy in action.

“Peter is changing the look of a scene on the fly,” Criste said. “It’s almost like he is the artist who’s painting the scene as it is being shot…And as you can see when you watch the show, he’s getting great results.”
