Reconstructive Dentistry Practice Opening on Long Creek Drive in South Portland

Maine native Dr. David S. Palmer returns after distinguished career in U.S. Air Force

SOUTH PORTLAND - Dr. David S. Palmer, D.M.D., has opened a reconstructive dentistry practice at 25 Long Creek Drive in South Portland.

A board-certified prosthodontist, Dr. Palmer will specialize in complete and partial dentures, crowns and bridges, and implant-supported replacement of missing teeth and related oral structures. He also will treat patients who need the replacement, with man-made materials, of oral parts lost as a result of surgery to remove tumors.

Appointments with Dr. Palmer and his staff may be made starting June 9 by calling (207) 775-7767. The office is located at 25 Long Creek Drive, across the street from the new Outback Steakhouse on Western Avenue in South Portland.

Dr. Palmer practiced as a general dentist and then as a prosthodontist while serving in the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of colonel. Following his retirement from active duty, Dr. Palmer practiced on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi while his youngest child finished school.

"I'm looking forward to building a practice in South Portland to serve the prosthodontic needs of patients throughout the region," Dr. Palmer said. "After living and working with the Air Force throughout this country and in Europe, my wife and I are excited about settling down in Maine, where my parents and my heart have always remained."

A native of the Brunswick-Gardiner area, Palmer also has family roots in Westbrook. He and his wife, Linda, will reside in Portland.

Dr. Palmer is a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, and the Naval Postgraduate Dental School at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.

A teacher, author and lecturer on dental topics related to prosthodontics, he has given more than 130 formal presentations to doctors at universities and U.S. military bases in the United States and overseas.

Dr. Palmer has been honored by selection as a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists and is Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics. He is a member of the Greater Portland Dental Society, the Maine Dental Association, and the American Dental Association.

Dr. Palmer and his wife have been married for 31 years and have two children, Christian, 29, and Whitney, 22, and a grandchild, Zachary Scott Palmer.
