Registration Now Open for New MR8K at TD Garden on Labor Day – the First Ever 5-Mile Run (8K) to Feature Finish Line at Boston Bruins Center Ice

The Martin Richard Foundation, in partnership with TD Garden, the Boston Bruins Foundation and DMSE Sports, announce inaugural ‘MR8K – A Run for Gratitude’ to honor first responders

BOSTON (May 10, 2018) – Registration is now open for the MR8K at TD Garden on Labor Day – the first ever 5-mile run to feature the finish line at Boston Bruins center ice.

The Martin Richard Foundation, in partnership with TD Garden, the Boston Bruins Foundation and Dave McGillivray Sports Enterprises (DMSE), has announced plans for the first annual MR8K, set for Monday, Sept. 3.

To reflect the spirit of the Martin Richard Foundation, the first annual MR8K will be a ‘Run for Gratitude’ honoring first responders and related charities.

“Through our work at the Martin Richard Foundation, and with incredible partners like TD Garden, the Boston Bruins Foundation and public safety officials, we continue to see that there are so many individuals across our community who respond to adversity with kindness and selflessness,” said Bill Richard, co-founder of the Martin Richard Foundation. “That’s why the proceeds from this year’s MR8K will benefit first responders and all those who stand up for others when it would be easier to do nothing at all. It is our way of saying thank you to them for what they did for us and do for others every day.”

The MR8K race, produced by DMSE Sports, Inc., is the first ever 5-mile course (8K) that will bring participants beneath TD Garden’s storied rafters, home of 23 championship banners (the most in the country), and feature a finish line at Boston Bruins center ice on the floor of TD Garden.

The course begins on Causeway St. and will take participants through downtown Boston, beside the Boston Common and along Commonwealth Ave. before looping back and ending inside TD Garden.

“DMSE Sports is really excited about managing this newest race in Boston,” said Dave McGillivray, president of DMSE Sports, who is a renowned endurance athlete and philanthropist. “DMSE now manages races that finish inside Fenway Park, Gillette Stadium and now the TD Garden, which is pretty cool. And, it’s all to benefit the Martin Richard Foundation, who I’ve been running for and personally supporting for the past five years.”

Registration is $45, with proceeds benefiting the Martin Richard Foundation. Founded in 2014, the foundation was formed by the parents of eight-year-old Martin Richard, who was killed when two bombs exploded near the Boston Marathon finish line on April 15, 2013. Participants and spectators will have the opportunity to fundraise and donate on CrowdRise. Each registrant will receive an event day shirt as part of the registration fee. The event is open to both runners and walkers, as well as families with small children.

Since 2014, the Martin Richard Foundation has distributed more than 50,000 donations totaling nearly $750,000 in giving to organizations focused on community need, youth development, adaptive and inclusive sports, and education around non-violence.
