Rincon/University High School Choir to Hold Ice Cream Social/Silent Auction Nov. 16

Auction items still needed for fundraiser to help students pay their way to NYC to perform at Carnegie Hall in April

TUCSON (October 31, 2011) – 'An Evening of Hot Jazz & Cold Ice Cream' along with a Silent Auction will be held Nov. 16 at Rincon-University High School in Tucson to help students raise funds for a trip to New York and a performance at historic Carnegie Hall.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the Silent Auction and Ice Cream Social and feature music by string quartets from the RHS/UHS orchestra and acoustic guitarist Jonathan W. Martinez, a University of Arizona grad student. A performance by the Rincon-University High School Choraliers & Jazz Band will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Organizers say donations for the auction are still needed from area businesses such as restaurants, theaters, shops, hair salons, resorts and other services. To donate an item or a service, or if questions, contact the RHS/UHS Choir Office at (520) 232-5831.

The event is open to the public and tickets are $2 at the door. Rincon-University High is located at 421 N. Arcadia Ave., one block east of Swan. Parking is in the east lots off of Arcadia.

“The cost of the New York City trip to perform at Carnegie Hall is $1,900 per student, so events such as this silent auction – and the Arizona State Tax Credit – are great ways to help our choir students defray those costs,” said Mareena Boosamra Ball, Director of Choral Activities at Rincon/University High School. “And businesses that donate auction items get great exposure, because we usually get a good turnout for the auction.”

Rincon/University HS (RUHS) Choirs holding silent auction Nov. 16 at HS to raise funds for NYC trip to perform at Carnegie Hall.Parents, friends and others may direct their Arizona State Tax Credit to the Choir before the end of the year, she added. Tax credits may be made via a pink form available at the auction, or online at https://tusdstats.tusd.k12.az.us/paweb/utility/taxcredit/school.aspx - targeting the RUHS Choir on the form.

The students will spend five days and four nights in New York City, rehearsing each day before the April 8 performance at Carnegie Hall. The trip is organized by Mid America Productions. A Dec. 2-3 Madrigal Dinner will also raise funds for the trip.

So far, the students have received admission tickets or gift certificates from:

Pastiche, UA Presents, Desert Museum, Loft Cinema, Peter Piper Pizza, Diamondbacks, Golf ‘n Stuff, Brake Masters, Plaza Elite Spa, Tucson Museum of Art, Caruso's Italian Restaurant, Kitt Peak, Reid Park Zoo, Simoniz Car Wash, Children's Museum, Beyond Bread, Tucson Wildlife Museum, Tucson Botanical Gardens, Texas Roadhouse, Bisbee Queen Mine Tours, Invisible Theater and items such as a German cuckoo clock, frames, a Kokopelli wall hanging, handmade jewelry and a premium wine opener kit.
