Seminar to Focus on Maine Employment Law

Event December 4 and 5 is hosted by Bernstein, Shur

The law firm of Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson is hosting a half-day seminar next month that will focus on legal issues in Maine employment law. The program will provide business executives and human resource managers with an overview of recent changes in employment law, as well as address topics such as military reserve leave, employee terminations, harassment claims, the Family Medical Leave Act, and non-compete and confidentiality agreements.

The seminar - being offered twice for convenience - will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday, December 4, and Wednesday, December 5, at Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson in Portland. Although the seminar is primarily for clients of the firm, limited space may still be available for other interested persons. Reservations are required, so persons interested in attending should call Liz Moreau at (207) 228-7217 to reserve a space.

"This is an opportunity for employers in Maine to get an update on legal issues that could affect their businesses," said Glenn Israel of Cape Elizabeth, an attorney in Bernstein, Shur's Employment and Labor Law Practice Group.

The group, chaired by attorney Joseph J. Hahn of Freeport, represents scores of Maine companies in labor and employment matters. With 11 attorneys, the group practices before the Maine Human Rights Commission, the National Labor Relations Board and all other state and federal agencies that oversee labor and employment laws and regulations.

Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson is one of northern New England's largest law firms, with more than 70 attorneys in offices in Portland and Augusta. The firm provides legal services in all major subject areas, including corporate and commercial law, litigation and trials, municipal and governmental affairs, and tax and estate planning. Bernstein, Shur also has an active practice in bankruptcy, health law, environmental law, technology and commerce, employment law, legislative law, intellectual property, public utilities and other regulated industries.
