Sponsored by Downeast Energy, the 14th annual fun-filled event features skiing, snowboarding and prizes – all for a good cause

BRIDGTON, Maine – Shawnee Peak’s Moonlight Charity Challenge Ski-A-Thon, set for Feb. 6 in Bridgton, will benefit Camp Sunshine, a national retreat in Casco for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

The 14th annual fundraising event, sponsored by Downeast Energy & Building Supply, will feature a fun-filled afternoon and evening of skiing, snowboarding and prizes, all for a good cause.

Participants sign-in at Shawnee Peak from 1 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, to receive a lift ticket valid until 10 p.m. The Moonlight Charity Ski-A-Thon will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. with a dinner and social in Blizzard's Pub from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m.

Participants must raise a minimum of $100 in pledges per person (ski or snowboard) to participate. Pledges can be based on a per-run basis or a flat donation. Entry includes an event T-shirt, dinner buffet, lift ticket and gift bag. Those who raise more than $1,000 will receive unique event wear.

Each skier and snowboarder may take as many runs as they can. Prizes will be awarded for various age groups for most runs skied and most money earned. Age groups are 12 & Under, 13-18 and 18 and over.

Beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers and riders are welcome.

Proceeds from the event will primarily benefit Camp Sunshine and also benefit the Shawnee Peak Adaptive Ski Program.

The presenting sponsor for this year’s event is Downeast Energy & Building Supply (www.downeastenergy.com).

Other sponsors include: Gold Sponsors – Holloway Automotive Group (www.hollywoodmotorcars.com) and Benefit Networks (www.benefitnetworks.com); Silver Sponsor – National Distributors (Budweiser & Gritty's); Bronze Sponsors – www.5seasons.net, Baker Newman & Noyes, Chalmers Insurance Group, Chick Lumber, Hussey Seating, Hutchins Trucking and Migis Lodge.

Camp Sunshine, nestled alongside the shores of beautiful Sebago Lake in Casco, offers children with life threatening illnesses and their families a place to relax together for a week, and to take a break from the extraordinary demands placed on them on a daily basis.

The year-round program is free of charge and staffed almost entirely by volunteers. It is the only program in the nation whose mission is to address the impact of a life-threatening illness on every member of the immediate family – the ill child, the parents, and the siblings. Since its inception in 1984, Camp Sunshine has provided a haven for more than 28,000 individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. In addition to providing 24-hour onsite medical and psychosocial support, the camp offers a variety of daily activities ranging from swimming and boating to archery and soccer and special events such as bonfires and cookouts.
