Part of 'Shining the Light for Maine Youth' program

Ten Maine high school 2006 graduates were awarded $2,500 each by TD Banknorth as part of the bank’s nationally recognized “TD Banknorth Promise” program created to help Maine youth.

Senior students receiving the $2,500 scholarships were:

Ashley M. Carey of North Anson, Carrabec High School
Jonathan E. Dolloff of Bath, Morse High School
Stephanie L. Greenlaw of Thorndike, Mt. View High School

Alyssa H. Kavanagh of Winslow, Waterville High School
Whitney W. Moberg of Portland, Portland High School
Sydney M. Mosher of North Berwick, Noble High School
Makala E. Skinner of Orland, Ellsworth High School

The $25,000 annual scholarship program is aimed at rewarding Maine students for academic excellence and helping offset their higher education costs. Scholarship recipients also are offered an optional three-month paid internship position with TD Banknorth after their first year of post-secondary education.

TD Banknorth has pledged $250,000 for a 10-year scholarship fund to help young people in Maine attain marketable skills through education. The scholarships are being administered by the MES Foundation. This is the eighth year for the program.

“We at TD Banknorth are committed to expanding the opportunities available to Maine youth, and assisting them with the ever-increasing cost of education is one way to accomplish that,” said David Ott, president of TD Banknorth, Maine. “Post-secondary education for students is vital to Maine’s continued economic development. Our scholarship program is a way in which we can help facilitate college enrollment.”

The scholarship program is part of the TD Banknorth Promise: Shining the Light for Maine Youth program. The program, which has been recognized nationally by the America’s Promise Program as a significant “promise-maker,” helps provide Maine’s young people with access to the fundamental resources needed to lead healthy, happy lives.

As part of the TD Banknorth Promise: Shining the Light for Maine Youth program, TD Banknorth also partners with Junior Achievement in a school outreach program whereby bank employees volunteer in classrooms throughout the year to teach middle-school students about economic concepts. The company also supports the TD Banknorth Strike Out Cancer in Kids program, benefiting the Maine Children’s Cancer program; and the TD Banknorth Beach to Beacon Race, an annual 10K road race held in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The race draws internationally known competitors and benefits a different children’s charity each year.

TD Banknorth Maine operates 61 branches and 90 ATMs in the state. A division of TD Banknorth, N.A., TD Banknorth Maine is the state’s largest bank and provides more than 229,000 Maine households with a full line of retail banking products and services including commercial and consumer products, trust & investment services, commercial and personal insurance and residential mortgages.
