TD Banknorth Donates $10,000 to Outward Bound to Support Scholarships for Maine Children

TD Banknorth has donated $10,000 to Outward Bound, a national organization that helps Maine children build character and gain self-esteem through outdoor adventure.

The grant, provided by TD Banknorth’s charitable giving arm, the TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation, will support scholarships that will help children across Maine take an Outward Bound course.

Outward Bound is the nation’s leading non-profit experiential education organization, reaching more than 60,000 people a year. Its mission is to "promote character development and self-discovery, and challenge students to cultivate self-reliance, leadership, fitness, compassion and service through exceptional wilderness education."

Across the country, the Outward Bound Scholarship Program awards $5.5 million in support to more than 5,000 students each year. For more information, visit www.obwilderness.org.

“Outward Bound continues to touch the lives of Maine children in a very positive, life-changing way,” said Julie McQuillan, Public Affairs Manager at TD Banknorth in Maine. “Through hands-on learning, they challenge limits and help young people realize just what they are capable of achieving. We are pleased to be able to assist Outward Bound in its efforts here in Maine.”

All Outward Bound courses and programs are based on six core values: Adventure and Challenge, Learning by Doing, Compassion and Service, Social and Environmental Responsibility, Character Development, and Inclusion and Diversity.

“We continue to make a difference in Maine and across the country in large part due to the generosity of companies such as TD Banknorth that see the value of what we are doing,” said Eric Knutsen, New England Regional Development Manager. “TD Banknorth’s donation will help make the Outward Bound experience possible for Maine children, and we are deeply grateful.”

The TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation is the charitable giving arm of TD Banknorth Inc. The Foundation's mission is to serve the individuals, families and businesses in all the communities where TD Banknorth operates, having made over $14 million in charitable donations since its inception in 2002. The efforts of the Foundation are coordinated locally through TD Banknorth's community relations departments and are focused on the areas of economic empowerment, youth development and community support. More information on the TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation is available at www.TDBanknorth.com.

In Maine, TD Banknorth operates 61 branches and 90 ATMs. A division of TD Banknorth, N.A., TD Banknorth is the state’s largest bank and provides more than 229,000 Maine households with a full line of retail banking products and services.
