TD Banknorth Provides $15,000 in Support to the Children's Museum of Maine

TD Banknorth, through a grant from the TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation and through corporate sponsorship, has given a total of $15,000 to the Children’s Museum of Maine to support programs advancing educational opportunities.

Located on Free Street in downtown Portland, the Children’s Museum of Maine (CMM) provides an inviting and creative environment for children and their families to learn about the world around them through exploration and play. Founded in 1976, the museum provides informal free-choice learning settings and innovative programs designed to enhance educational opportunities and improve educational resources in three areas: science, early childhood, and global culture.

TD Banknorth is the corporate sponsor of Toddler Park, a soft play area located in the heart of the museum’s main floor that enables grownups to take a seat on padded benches and watch the kids explore and interact in a safe and secure environment.

“The Children’s Museum of Maine has inspired discovery and imagination in countless Maine children over the years, including my own,” said Larry Wold, President, TD Banknorth Maine. “Toddler Park and the many other activities at the Museum provide a wonderful place for children to learn and have fun. We are excited to be able to offer this support to our community.”

CMM attracts 100,000 visitors per year from throughout Greater Portland and the region, and extensive outreach initiatives are enabling children from rural and low-income communities to benefit from Museum resources.

Museum visitors are invited to engage in interactive exhibits and hands-on activities designed to inspire curiosity and stimulate imagination. Spanning four floors, the exhibits include a farm, veterinary hospital, car repair shop, fire truck, forest, lumber mill, pirate ship and a live marine touch tank. “A key part of our mission is to help create a broad community devoted to our children’s development and learning,” said Suzanne P. Olson, the Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of Maine. “That could not be accomplished without the generosity of corporate partners such as TD Banknorth.”

The TD Banknorth Charitable Foundation is the charitable giving arm of TD Banknorth Inc., a leading banking and financial services company headquartered in Portland, Maine.
