United Way of Greater Portland CEO Slated to Lead United Way Suncoast in Tampa Bay Area of Florida

Suzanne McCormick to assume CEO position in Suncoast Region this fall

PORTLAND, Maine (July 1, 2014) – After more than 13  years with the United Way of Greater Portland, four of them as CEO, Suzanne McCormick will leave that position later this summer and take over leadership of United Way Suncoast in the Tampa Bay area, Florida sometime this fall.

Suzanne McCormack is leaving the United Way of Greater Portland for a similar role in Tampa Bay.

“Suzanne is an exemplary executive who has brought invaluable leadership to the United Way of Greater Portland,” said Victoria Loring, president of the board of directors. “She’ll be greatly missed, but we are excited for her to have this opportunity, and certainly proud that the great work she’s done here caught the eye of the United Way Suncoast.  The strong foundation she’s laid here will support UWGP well through a smooth transition and into the future.”

McCormick first came to the United Way of Greater Portland in 1994 and worked for more than eight years in senior leadership positions.   In 2001 she left to become CEO of the American Red Cross of Southern Maine and then the Peoples’ Regional Opportunity Program. She returned to the United Way in 2010 as CEO.

Suzanne McCormack is leaving the United Way of Greater Portland for a similar role in Tampa Bay.

“This opportunity came at just the right time. We have a strong strategic plan in place here in Portland. The staff is excellent and the board is actively supportive of our mission and goals. The United Way of Greater Portland is well-positioned to move forward,” said McCormick. “And for my family, this is also a good time. My children are still in middle school and eager for a new adventure and my husband is happy to make this transition too.”

Having worked in the United Way system for more than a decade, McCormick brings a wealth of experience and understanding of the community-based partnerships and  relationships with which the United Way works.

Like the United Way of Greater Portland, United Way Suncoast focuses on creating opportunities for all in the areas with particular focus on education and financial stability.
