WyzAnt.com Online Tutor Matching Service Sees Remarkable Growth as Parents Seek Tutors to Help Kids Improve Grades

CHICAGO – Parents seeking tutors to help their kids improve their grades are turning to WyzAnt.com, an online matching service that connects local college students, teachers, retirees and other professionals with students who need private tutors to improve their grades.

WyzAnt.com – a Chicago-based online national portal of local tutors with degrees and expertise in more than 150 different subjects – has seen growth both in revenues and demand in excess of the private tutoring industries average annual growth of 11.4 percent over the last three years, according to Barnes 2009 Report on U.S. Exam Preparation and Tutoring Industry.

WyzAnt has seen its geographic markets experience consistent growth nationwide over the past three years with Los Angeles Tutors leading the charge numbering 700 strong in the area. Education experts have also acknowledged the counter-cyclical nature of the industry as well as its persistent seasonality.

"It's that time of year when parents recognize that B's can become A's with the assistance of a private, in-home tutor,” said Andrew Geant, president and co-founder of the Wyzant.com. “Tutors can also help a struggling child keep up with class work."

WyzAnt.com is a user-friendly website where parents can search by zip code for local in-home Science, English, Foreign Languages, Music, Math Tutors, and more. A photo and description of the tutor is displayed, along with their educational background, experience and individual teaching style. Each tutor has taken a test in their subject area to qualify them to be part of the site. Fees generally range from $30-50/hr with discounts available for students who choose to purchase a package of lessons

WyzAnt, Inc. is the brain child of Geant and friend Mike Weishuhn, who met while students at Princeton. The duo started the company after graduating in 2005 and called it WyzAnt - a combination of their names - Weishuhn and Geant. At first, tutors listed on the site were college students but they soon expanded the database to include young professionals, teachers, parents and retirees. Within a year, WyzAnt was proving to be a viable business concept with a database of over 100 tutors and matching up several dozen new students each month. Today, it has more than 11,650 tutors and has served more than 20,000 students throughout the U.S. since it went online.

"Our proprietary matching service has shown an unusual ability to help students and their parents find tutors who are both highly trained and well matched to the task at hand,” Geant added.
