Attorney Andru Volinsky Joins Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson

Well-known litigation attorney to manage the firm’s New Hampshire operations from offices in Manchester

Attorney Andru Volinsky, a commercial litigator well known for serving as lead counsel for the Claremont school funding cases, has joined the regional law firm of Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson as the managing attorney in the firm's Manchester, New Hampshire offices.

Volinsky, who has 22 years in law, will serve in the firm's litigation department and focus his practice on employment law, commercial disputes and issues of white-collar crime. Bernstein, Shur, one of Northern New England's biggest law firms with 75 attorneys in three locations, has one of the largest commercial practices in the region.

"When we decided to open an office in New Hampshire, we made a commitment to hiring top-notch legal talent," said attorney Charles E. Miller, the firm's managing shareholder in Portland. "With Andy, we feel we've got one of the best. He is well respected among his peers and has a stellar reputation in difficult public cases. His expertise, backed by a regional firm like ours, will be a winning combination."

Prior to joining Bernstein, Shur, Volinsky was a partner at Stein, Volinsky & Callaghan. For the past 12 years, he has served as lead counsel in the matter of Claremont School District v. State of New Hampshire, a constitutional challenge to the method by which New Hampshire funds and maintains its public schools.

Volinsky also has tried numerous civil cases and criminal cases in the state and federal courts and has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court. A significant component of his practice has involved conducting investigations on behalf of corporations that have been accused of misconduct concerning employment practices or in instances of corporate compliance or fraud.

Volinsky is a 2002 graduate of the Leadership New Hampshire program sponsored by the Business and Industries Association and the N.H. Charitables Association. He received the NH-NEA Friend of Education Award in 1996, the N.H. Civil Liberties Union Bill of Rights Award in 1997, and was named Merrimack County (N.H.) Attorney of the Year in 2000.

Volinsky received his law degree in 1980 from the National Law Center at George Washington University and is admitted to practice in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.

A Concord, N.H., resident, Volinsky is married with three children.

Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson is one of northern New England's largest law firms with 75 attorneys in offices in Portland and Augusta, Maine and Manchester, New Hampshire. The firm provides legal services in all major subject areas, including corporate and commercial law, litigation and trials, municipal and governmental affairs, education law, construction law, employment law and tax and estate planning.
