Attorney David A. Soley of Bernstein Shur Co-Authors Business Torts Litigation Guide for American Bar Association

David A. Soley, a trial lawyer with Bernstein Shur, has co-authored the American Bar Association’s “Business Torts Litigation Handbook,” a guide to current business torts law used by the legal profession throughout the United States.

The book, which was recently published by the Bar, explores the emerging law of business torts throughout the country. Business torts are tools of choice used by skilled lawyers engaged in the growing field of complex business litigation.

Included in the book are chapters on breach of fiduciary duties, interference with contractual and economical relationships, employment torts, misrepresentation and fraud, civil RICO and remedies.

Soley, who concentrates his practice in the areas of business, commercial, real estate and constitutional litigation, was a trial lawyer in Washington D.C. before joining the firm in 1988. In his more than 20 years as a trial lawyer, Soley has specialized in complex litigation involving some of the largest companies in the United States and Europe. He has also litigated high profile constitutional cases involving drug testing, pregnancy testing, mandatory jury fees, and term limits.

Soley is a 1980 honors graduate of Bates College, and received his J.D. from Emory University in 1984. A resident of Freeport, he served on the Freeport Town Council, and spent three years as Chair and Vice Chair of the Council. Soley is also Chair of the Business Torts Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section on Litigation. In addition, Soley is a member of the Maine, Maryland, Georgia, and District of Columbia Bar Associations, as well as the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson is one of northern New England’s largest law firms with more than 80 lawyers in offices in Portland and Augusta, Maine and in Manchester, N.H.
