JOHN QUARTARARO PROMOTED TO SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AT BANKNORTH

John Quartararo has been named a senior vice president in the Government Banking Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. As a senior municipal relationship manager, he will coordinate the management of major state and municipal banking relationships for Banknorth Group and its affiliate banks in six states.

Quartararo joined Peoples Heritage Bank, a Banknorth subsidiary, in 1995 and has six years in banking. He previously served as vice president. He also has served as the finance director and treasurer for the cities of Bangor and Saco.

A resident of Alfred, Quartararo is a member of the board of directors for the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice in South Portland. He is a 1979 graduate of Nasson College in Springvale and has completed coursework toward a master's degree in public administration from the University of Maine.

MICHAEL L. RAYDER JR. NAMED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AT BANKNORTH

Michael L. Rayder Jr. has been named a senior vice president in the Finance Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. He will continue to focus on planning, profitability and performance management, including the bank's capital and operating budget.

Rayder joined Banknorth in 2000 and has 19 years in banking. He previously served as vice president. In addition, he has served as an administrative vice president and a vice president for a trust company in Buffalo, N.Y., and as a financial officer for a Buffalo-based bank.

A resident of Falmouth, Rayder serves as the treasurer of Greater Portland Landmarks. He received an MBA in 1983 from Duke University in Durham, N.C., and a bachelor's degree in 1981 from Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.

GINNIE A. RICKER PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT AT BANKNORTH GROUP

Ginnie A. Ricker has been promoted to vice president in the Information Technology-Customer Support Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Lewiston. In her role as IT customer support manager, she will continue to manage a team of 22, including two support desks, support staff and IT customer/account managers.

Ricker joined Banknorth in 1996 and has 13 years in banking. She previously served as a systems analyst with Peoples Heritage Bank, a Banknorth subsidiary.

A resident and native of Winthrop, Ricker is a 1984 graduate of Winthrop High School and is currently enrolled at the University of Maine in Augusta. She is active in the Winthrop Youth Athletic League, serves on the board of the Winthrop YMCA and participates in grade school activities in Winthrop schools.

DAVID G. STROUSE PROMOTED TO ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT AT BANKNORTH GROUP

David G. Strouse has been promoted to assistant vice president of asset/liability management at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. He will continue to be responsible for managing interest rate risk for Banknorth Group operations in six states.

Strouse joined Banknorth Group in 1997. He has served previously as an officer of asset/liability management with Banknorth and a senior credit analyst with Peoples Heritage Bank, a Banknorth subsidiary. He is a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research and the Maine Chapter of the Boston Security Analysts Society.

A resident of South Portland, Strouse is a 1996 graduate of Bates College in Lewiston and a 1992 graduate of Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, Conn.

PAMELA D. SZALAJESKI PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT AT BANKNORTH

Pamela D. Szalajeski has been named a vice president in the Human Resources Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. She will continue to serve as a human resources generalist in the bank's Lewiston office.

Szalajeski joined Banknorth in 1997 and has more than 20 years in banking. She serves on the advisory boards of Central Maine Technical College, the University of New England, the Maine Job Service, and Occupation Health. Szalajeski is a member of the American Society for Training and Development, the Human Resources Association, and the Altrusa International, Inc. club in Portland.

A resident of Portland, Szalajeski is a 1964 graduate of Edward Little High School in Auburn and attended Husson College in Bangor. She serves as a board member for Projects with Industry and is involved with the North Deering Neighborhood Association.

PAULA R. WATSON PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT, SENIOR ATTORNEY AT BANKNORTH

Paula R. Watson has been named vice president and senior attorney at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. She will continue to serve as senior attorney and litigation manager for Banknorth Group operations in six states.

Watson joined Banknorth Group in 2000 and has more than a decade of experience representing banks. She previously served as outside counsel to Peoples Heritage Bank - a Banknorth subsidiary - and as a partner at a Portland-based law firm.

In addition, Watson is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps for the Maine Army National Guard and is the contracts attorney for the State Area Command Headquarters in Augusta. She is a member of the American Bar Association and both the Vermont and Maine bar associations.

A resident of Falmouth, Watson received her law degree in 1986 from Vermont Law School in South Royalton. She is a 1983 graduate of Knox College in Galesburg, Ill. Originally from New Hampshire, she is a 1979 graduate of Lebanon High School.

Dana Wedge has been promoted to senior vice president in the Workout Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. He will continue to be responsible for the restructuring of commercial loans.
Wedge joined Banknorth in 1988 and has 15 years in banking. He previously served as vice president.

Patty White has been promoted to senior vice president in the Marketing Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. She will continue to be responsible for the development of strategic marketing plans for business lines in all markets for Banknorth, as well as oversee the marketing budget, the client service group and the company's cross-referral and awards programs.

White joined Banknorth in 1998 and has 18 years in banking. She has previously served as a vice president of sales and market management and a vice president of commercial marketing. In addition, White has served as the marketing director for a trust company and a federal credit union, both in Massachusetts.

A resident of Freeport, White is graduate of Lesley University in Boston and Troy State University in Troy, Ala.

Kathie A. Winchenbach has been promoted to assistant vice president in the Finance Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. She will continue to serve as a regulatory reporting manager.

Winchenbach joined Banknorth in 2000. A resident of Portland, Winchenbach is a certified public accountant and has a master's degree in business administration. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

William T. Williams has been promoted to assistant vice president in the Finance Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. He will continue to provide support for the bank's retail line of business, as well as electronic banking and merchant services.

Williams joined Banknorth in 2001 and has 10 years in banking. He previously served as an officer. He also has served as a corporate auditor and accountant for other banks.

A Maine native and a resident of Westbrook, Williams is a member of the Hiram Lodge in South Portland. He is a 1988 graduate of the University of Southern Maine and a 1982 graduate of Deering High School in Portland.
