JOHN OPPERMAN NAMED EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AT BANKNORTH

John R. Opperman has been named an executive vice president in the Legal Department at Banknorth Group in Portland. He will continue to serve as the bank's Deputy General Counsel and as the department's manager.

Opperman joined Banknorth Group in 1998 as a senior vice president. He has more than 20 years in the legal profession, formerly serving as an attorney and director at the Portland law firm of Perkins Thompson Hinckley & Keddy. Opperman serves as vice chair for the Securities and Insurance Subcommittee of CFS Committee, and is a member of the American Bar Association and the Maine State Bar Association.

A resident of Portland, Opperman is a board member of The Park Danforth, a seniors housing project, and also serves on the boards of the Maine Bar Foundation and the Portland Ski Club. He is a 1978 graduate of Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Mass., and received his undergraduate degree in 1975 from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D.

GREGORY PENK PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT AT BANKNORTH

Gregory A. Penk has been promoted to vice president in the Data Administration Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Lewiston. He will continue to be responsible for databases and intranet activities in his role as data administration manager.

Penk joined Banknorth Group in 2000 and formerly served as an assistant vice president.

A resident of Gorham, Penk is a 1987 graduate of the University of Wisconsin- LaCrosse in LaCrosse, Wis.

VICTORIA PLUMMER PROMOTED TO ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT AT BANKNORTH

Victoria A. Plummer has been promoted to assistant vice president in the Mortgage Department at Banknorth Group in Portland. She will to continue to manage underwriting and processing for residential lending in Maine and Massachusetts.

Plummer joined Banknorth Group in 1999 and has 14 years in the mortgage industry. She is a member of the Maine Mortgage Bankers Association.

A resident of Westbrook and a native of Gray, Plummer is a 1969 graduate of Gray-New Gloucester High School.

Julie E. Richards has been promoted to assistant vice president in the Human Resources Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. She will continue to provide human resources support to assigned business units throughout the bank.

Richards joined Banknorth Group in 1996. A member of the Human Resources Association of Southern Maine, she formerly served at Banknorth as a human resources officer and a human resources assistant.

ANDREW SAWYER JOINS THE STRATEVEST GROUP

Andrew H. Sawyer has joined The Stratevest Group in Portland as a vice president. In his role as portfolio manager, he is responsible for conducting investment research and analysis for clients throughout Maine.

The Stratevest Group, a subsidiary of Banknorth Group, Inc., provides an extensive range of money management, trust and investment services to individuals, families and businesses statewide. The group has offices at One Portland Square in Portland, at 77 Exchange Street in Bangor and at 217 Main Street in Lewiston.

A resident of Kittery, Sawyer has 10 years in banking and investments. He has formerly served as manager of pension and investments at Raytheon Company in Lexington, Mass. Sawyer is a chartered financial analyst (CFA), and is a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR), the Maine Security Analysts Society, and the Boston Security Analysts Society.

A native of Falmouth, Sawyer is a 1983 graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, and received an MBA in 1991 from Pace University in New York City.

DANA C. SCRIBNER PROMOTED TO ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT AT BANKNORTH GROUP

Dana C. Scribner has been promoted to assistant vice president in the Corporate Finance Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. In his role as a senior accountant, he will continue to supervise bank accountants in the legal entity portion of finance and assist with the monthly close process.

Scribner joined Banknorth Group in 2000. He is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maine Society of CPA's.

Dwight T. Swiderek has been promoted to assistant vice president in the Finance Department at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Portland. He will to continue to be responsible for corporate income tax preparation.

Linda D. Wing has been promoted to officer in the Electronic Banking Unit at Banknorth Group, Inc. in Lewiston. In her new role as an accounting manager, she will oversee the accounting, fraud and research areas in electronic banking.

Wing joined Banknorth Group in 1990 and has 14 years in banking. She formerly served as a supervisor in the electronic banking, consumer investor loan, leasing and loan research departments at Banknorth.

Wing, who resides in Auburn with her husband and three children, volunteers with the March of Dimes. She is attending St. Joseph's College in Standish. A native of Lewiston, Wing is a 1984 graduate of Lewiston High School.
