Bernstein Shur's Jeff Thaler Appointed to Greater Portland Global Communities Task Force
PORTLAND, Maine Bernstein Shurs Jeffrey A. Thaler has been appointed by Mayor Edward J. Suslovic to the Greater Portland Global Communities Task Force.
A resident of Yarmouth, Thaler is a senior member of Bernstein Shur's Energy, Environmental, and Litigation Practice Groups. He also serves on numerous boards, including Land for Maine's Future and the World Affairs Council of Maine. He is a charter member and founder of the American College of Environmental Lawyers.
The formal charge to the Greater Portland Global Communities Task Force is to: Define what it means for Portland to be a World Class Global City, Identify the global assets that comprise the greater Portland community, and Determine how these global assets should be mobilized to achieve the vision.
The task force will issue a final report early in 2009. In addition, the task force will convene a Global Communities Summit in late November.
In a letter to task force members, Mayor Suslovic noted that the task force will address one of the most important issues facing the future of our region.
The task force is being co-chaired by Tim Honey, former city manager of Portland and President of BeGlobal.net and by Robert Woodbury, former Chancellor of the University of Southern Maine and former President of the University of Maine system.
The first meeting of the task force is scheduled for June 9.
