Bernstein, Shur's Robert Keach Elected to National Attorney Certification Board

The American Board of Certification administers programs in bankruptcy and creditors' rights law

PORTLAND, Maine - Robert J. Keach, a leading New England bankruptcy attorney and senior shareholder at Portland-based Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Board of Certification (ABC).

The American Board of Certification (ABC) is a national attorney certification board that administers programs in bankruptcy and creditors rights law. The ABC, sponsored by the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Commercial Law League of America, is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the public and improving the quality of the bankruptcy and creditors' rights bar. The rigorous ABC certification standards are designed to encourage bankruptcy practitioners to strive toward excellence and to recognize attorneys who are experts in the bankruptcy and creditors' rights fields.

Keach chairs the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Practice Group at Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson, one of northern New England's largest law firms with offices in Portland and Augusta, Maine and Manchester, N.H. His work in Maine and elsewhere in the U.S. has included numerous major Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, workouts and restructurings on behalf of debtors, landlords, creditor committees and secured lenders.

Keach has been inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and has long been recognized in "The Best Lawyers in America," a comprehensive, national list of top lawyers selected by their peers. Keach is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Bankruptcy Institute ("ABI") and chairs the ABI's National Business Reorganization Committee. He has appeared as a panelist on national bankruptcy, lender liability and creditors rights programs, and is the author of several articles on bankruptcy and creditors' rights.

Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson is one of northern New England's largest law firms with more than 70 attorneys. The firm provides legal services in all major subject areas, including corporate and commercial law, litigation and trials, municipal and governmental affairs, education law, construction law, employment law and tax and estate planning. Bernstein, Shur also has an active practice in bankruptcy, health law, environmental law, technology and commerce, legislative law, intellectual property, public utilities and other regulated industries.
