Fact Sheet - Sept. 26 Referendum

VOTE NO SEPTEMBER 26

This is one of those times when your vote really counts.
This referendum is critical to Kittery's future.

The September 26 referendum is seeking to rescind preliminary approvals for a grandfathered project, Kittery Marketplace. This is not the right thing to do.

You should know...

á Kittery Marketplace will pay $1.1 million in taxes and generate more than $600,000 in net revenues to the town annually. All homeowners will benefit.

á Kittery Marketplace requested an expanded traffic study from Wilson Road to the York border and is totally funding the comprehensive study. We need to solve the problems for ourselves and for the town.

á Kittery Marketplace is paying to relocate the mobile home park residents to bigger lots in a nearby park and freezing their rents for five years.

á Kittery Marketplace is providing the land for a new state-of-the-art nursing home that will house a senior center open to the entire community.

á Kittery Marketplace is paying for an additional police officer and providing a police sub-station at the mall.

á A 'yes' vote on September 26 is an attempt to take a step back in time and rescind preliminary town approvals already granted. That's not fair and may not be legal.

á A 'yes' vote on September 26 does not stop retail development on Route 1, but does take planning out of the town's hands and gives it to the courts. The unintended consequences will prove costly to all of us.

á A 'NO' vote keeps in place the new ordinance (voted on in June) that prevents future large-scale retail development, and allows Kittery Marketplace to move forward with the rigorous local and state approval process.

Please Vote NO on September 26 - Thank you!
