IntelliCare Executive to Make Presentations at Telehealth Nursing Conference

Sherry Smith to lead seminars on 'telehealth' nursing and URAC accreditation

Sherry Smith, the senior vice president of clinical operations for IntelliCare, Inc., a leading provider of medical contact center services and technology, will lead two seminar sessions at a national conference focusing on new trends affecting the nursing telehealth practice.

Smith of Gilford, N.H., will make the presentations on October 15 as part of the three-day Contemporary Forums' Telephone Triage 2002 conference at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas. Her two presentations are titled "Battling the Nursing Shortage: The Virtual Nurse" and "URAC Accreditation: Meeting the Challenge." She made presentations on both topics last month at a similar conference in New Orleans.

"The use of contact center technology is a growing trend that allows healthcare providers to ensure their patients have direct telephone access to nurses 24 hours a day," said Smith, an RN, MSN and MBA. "The nurses can then provide guidance to help patients - no matter where they are located - make an informed healthcare decision, whether it's simply to get plenty of bed rest, contact their physician or head to the emergency room."

IntelliCare, with clients that include hospitals, health plans, employers and physician groups, employs a network of nurses at contact centers nationwide. Equipped with telephones, computers and proprietary software, IntelliCare nurses handle everything from patient inquiries and referrals to scheduling and registrations.

"It allows us to help our clients efficiently respond to the large number of patients who need assistance, no matter what time of day," Smith said.

A registered nurse, Smith joined IntelliCare in 1999 and has seven years of experience managing contact-center operations. She also has a broad background as a nurse manager and supervisor in various health-care settings in New Hampshire. A Gilford, N.H. resident, Smith received an MBA from Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, N.H., and a master's degree in nursing administration at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

South Portland, Maine-based IntelliCare, Inc., founded in 1997, is a leading provider of medical contact center outsourced services and application software used to enhance healthcare communications. The company was recently ranked as New England's 8th fastest-growing technology company on Deloitte & ToucheÕs prestigious Fast 50 list and been selected to the 2002 Deloitte & Touche Fast 500, a list recognizing the fasting growing tech companies in the U.S. and Canada. IntelliCare operates the largest contact center network in the U.S., with hubs located across the country. Its software and outsource solutions are used by more than 250 hospitals, health systems, health plans, group practices and employers nationwide.
